Skandapurāṇa IIb presents a critical edition of Adhyāyas 31-52 from the Skandapurāṇa, with an introduction and English synopsis. The text edited in this volume includes central myths of early Śaivism, such as the destruction of Dakṣa's sacrifice and Śiva acquiring the bull for his vehicle. Also included is an extensive description of the thirteen hells (Naraka).

Hans Teye Bakker, Ph.D. (1984), University of Groningen, is professor emeritus of Sanskrit and Hinduism at the University of Groningen. He has published numerous books and articles on the history of Hinduism. Peter Christiaan Bisschop, Ph.D. (2004), University of Groningen, is professor of Sanskrit and Ancient Cultures of South Asia at Leiden University. He is the author of Early Śaivism and the Skandapurāṇa (Egbert Forsten, 2006) and has published various articles on early Śaivism. Yuko Yokochi, Ph.D. (2005), University of Groningen, is professor of Sanskrit Literature at the Graduate School of Letters, Kyoto University. She is one of the co-authors of the Skandapurāṇa IIb (Brill, 2014) and has published various articles on the history of goddess worship in India.
